  2. MINOS Taking Stock '09 - Outline • Infrastructure • Space Usage & Capacity Planning • Performance • Backup & Recovery • Accomplishments • What’s Next • Concerns • Q & A

  3. MINOS Taking Stock '09 – Performance Before continuing! Explanation of the Mysql Work this year. 1 new box, minos-mysql2 Minos-mysql2 runs 3 databases • Primary calibration • Slave calibration containing only the 2 largest tables. • Control room log book. Slave calibration used as user failover database while primary calibration database is being backed up. It is not in regular use. The primary does not maintain a regularly scheduled backup, the slave is used only when calibrations are modified and primary needs a back of the new calibrations. Support for minos-msql2 is 8x5, to insure database is up and running. We agreed last year to take dba support for this once the database was moved to the new box and stable. Things are not yet stable, will discuss on concerns slide.

  5. MINOS Taking Stock '09 – Space Usage & Capacity Planning • Next two years Minosprd expected growth 3GB. 293GB is available. SAM growth ~700MB last year ~376GB is available on minosora3 – Host for dev / int down from last year due to minerva.

  6. MINOS Taking Stock '09 – Performance • Life expectancy growth of calibration mysql expected growth is 50% or 150G. • Growth for crl is linear and will forever remain ~50M. • Currently using 96G for calibration primary and crl, 123G available. • This does not take into account any space for the slave.

  7. MINOS Taking Stock '09 – Performance • Ganglia Monitoring: http://rexganglia2.fnal.gov/minos/?r=year&c=MINOS+DB&h=minosora1.fnal.gov • Support Coverage: Minosora1: 24*7 (4 hrs Response time) by D1 Minosora3: 8*5 (8 hrs Response time) by D1 • Support Costs / Month: (same as last year) • MINOSORA1 - $52.13MINOSORA1-SUN-RAID-ARRAY - $272.27 • MINOSORA3 - $43.32MINOSORA3-SUN-RAID-ARRAY - $82.71 • End of Service Life for Machines: June 30, 2011 • End of Service Life for Disks: Jan 13, 2011 • Minos-mysql2 is a new box under mfg warranty.

  8. MINOS Taking Stock '09 – Backups Details • Minosprd - minosora1 • Daily, 7 days of archives. • Available 132GB, Used 34GB (5 copies), Back-up time -> 17Mins • No Export. Backups to dcache daily • Minosdev - minosora3 • Daily, 4 days of archives • Avaiable 269GB, Used 1.2G is 2 copies,Back-up time -> 30 mins. No Export. Both copies of rman are local. • Minerdev - minosora3 • Daily, 4 days of archives • Available 269GB, Used 26GB is 2 copies,Back-up time -> 10 mins. No Export. Both copies of rman are local. • Minosint - minosora3 • Daily, 4 days of archives • Available 269GB, Used 7GB (3 copies),Back-up time -> 20 Mins. No Export. Both copies of rman are local.

  9. MINOS Taking Stock '09 – Backups Details • Minos-mysql2 – calibration master, crl, calibration slave • Slave acts as failover db when calibration master is being backed up. • Using mysql dump for backups. • Slave will require approximately 100G.

  10. MINOS Taking Stock '09 - Accomplishments • Minos Production 100% uptime • Upgraded the Oracle databases to version 10.2.0.4 • OS and DB Security Patches up-to-date • Deployed SAM Schama cuts as needed • Deployed a Minvera development database • Deployed new mysql calibration and crl on mysql-minos2. • Worked out implementation of mysql calibration slave. • Final hardware configuration slave, archives and bin logs is not yet stable or even agreed upon. • Dsg is currently not doing any development support for the mysql db(s).

  11. MINOS Taking Stock '09 - Next • Potential to begin plan to upgrade to 11g dependant on Sam. • Must complete transition of Art off dba responsibilities by stabilizing and finalizing environment for slave, archives and mysql bin logs.

  12. MINOS Taking Stock '09 - Concerns • Single point of failure for SAM application. • The current hardware configuration for the slave, archives and bin logs is not suitable. • There is no appropriate mount point for the slave. The slave, archives and bin logs were originally installed on /var. This is not the proper place for user access. Need to add additional none system space to accommodate slave, archives and logs. A directory named for example /minos/mysql needs to be established and separate from /data and /var.
