  2. What Is Gonorrhea • Gonorrhea is a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) • Caused by a bacteria called “Neisseria Gonorrhoeae” • Anyone who has sex can get gonorrhea • Can be spread by contact with penis, vagina, mouth, or anus • Grow in warm, moist areas (urethra tube)

  3. Symptoms (Women) • Painful or Frequent Urination • Anal itching, Discomfort, Bleeding, or discharge • Vagina discharge • Bleeding after sex • Lower abdominal Pain • Pinkeye (rare)

  4. Symptoms (Men) • Discharge from the penis • Painful or frequent urination • Anal itching, discomfort, discharge, and Bleeding • Pinkeye (rare) • New rash • Joint pain or arthritis

  5. Prevention • The only REAL way to prevent getting this sti is to simply not have sex. If you do make sure that your partner has not had a history of any sti’s.

  6. Up To Date Stats 1.CDC estimates more than 700 000 people in the U.S get gonorrhea each year.

  7. Cause of Gonorrhea • Gonorrhea is caused by the growth and expansion of the bacteria called Neisseria gonorrhoeae. The disease can survive in the eye, anus, mouth, penis, throat, or vagina. This means that it can be transmitted through any variety of sexual contact. 

  8. Transmisson • Gonorrhea can be spread through contact with the penis, vagina, anus, or mouth.

  9. Treatment • Because gonorrhea is a bacterial infection, it can be treated with antibiotics. Antibiotics for the infection can be taken orally or via injection. It is important that the patient does not engage in sexual interactions until he/she has finished all of the prescribed treatment. Feeling better does not always mean that the infection is gone.
