Measurements for resistive magnets (I) They take place in two halls: 867-RH29, 6 Benches and 5 (6) pulsed Power supplies (from 250 A to 6 * 500 A). 867-RC07, Air conditioned room (160 m2) with one Power supply (600 A). Magnetic measurements of magnets for: Linacs, Booster, PS, AD, CTF3, SPS, LHC, CNGS, LEIR, CLIC and external labs. Magnetic conformity of repaired or rebuilt magnets Measurements of prototypes Workshop on Test Facilities and measurement equipment needed for the LHC exploitation

Magnetic Calibration (I8) Rotation support Integrators and PC Dipole Dipole reference magnet: • Effective aperture: l=2.5m, h=80mm, w=300mm • Field: 1T (stab.:10-5T), monitored continuously with NMR probe and periodically mapped • Field angle aligned to <0.1 mrad w/r gravity • Used for calibration of coil area, parallelism and absolute angle (up to 5 coils simultaneously) • Overall uncertainty: 2x10-4 (repeatab.: 5x10-5) NMR probe Lateral stroke Sensor (res. 10-3mm) Integrators and PC Quadrupole reference magnet: • Magnet aperture: l=1.5m, Ø 125mm, • Field gradient of 8.6 T/m (@ 480A) • Used for calibration of coil radii • (up to 5 coils simultaneously) • Overall uncertainty: 5x10-4 Quadrupole Rotation and centering support Workshop on Test Facilities and measurement equipment needed for the LHC exploitation

  16. Proposals for future Consolidate 230 & I8 labs for fabrication & calibration. Unique facility to make coils. Move some benches from Prevessin (calibration, 3D, Linac, small SSW) Add to I8 functionality to measure middle size magnets or prototypes by improving infrastructure (repair of the crane rails, and better communication with B.181) Keep benches associated to big Power Supplies in Prevessin for PS and SPS Workshop on Test Facilities and measurement equipment needed for the LHC exploitation
