Princeton University Library • Goals of Web site • Web as Front Door to the Library • Presents information about Library’s services, locations, hours, collections, and staff • Serves as the principal point of access for the Library’s Main Catalog, other catalogs, and digital collections (2500 electronic journals, 400 electronic databases, growing ebooks) An Overview of the Princeton University Web - Library

Princeton University Library • Web Infrastructure • Original server was an IBM RS6000 • Currently using Dell PowerEdge 2300 LINUX server for main web server • Several Library Web sites/functions on different computers, including NTs • Manage servers in-house - easier to maintain and make immediate changes when needed An Overview of the Princeton University Web - Library

Princeton University Library • Site maintenance • 1 1/2 FTE devoted to technical maintenance • Other Library Staff mostly manage their own content • Branch libraries manage their own sites - some on the Library servers, some on CIT servers • Occasional assistance from student employees An Overview of the Princeton University Web - Library

Princeton University Library • Site development • Initial design by Library staff (2-3 part time) with implementation by a summer student • Current site design, committee of 12, 3-4 staff maintain the backend • Search engine from UC Berkeley Libraries - more specific than PU Web site search engine An Overview of the Princeton University Web - Library
