  1. 68104 WINDSHIELD SURVEY

  2. Benson Area • “Today, Benson retains that small-town feel in the midst of the big city. Noted for its cultural and live music venues, Benson offers an eclectic, upscale lifestyle for its residents. It is located on some of the highest elevations in Douglas County, providing spectacular views to some of the homes in the area; this, along with the standard of living in the area, helps to keep property values high. Part of North Omaha, Benson is located in the heart of the city and is an established and stable neighborhood within the Omaha Public School District. (Troy Arthur, 2010).”

  18. Current Issues • “One problem that I had noticed, and have been working on, is the lack of communication between, and public awareness of, the numerous social services groups within the Alliance. (Troy Arthur, 2010)” • “Economic revitalization in a deteriorating part of the community rife with violence and socio-economic disparity.  It is difficult to focus on commercial development and sustainability improvements and creation of green spaces when basic human needs are not being met by all in the community. (Troy Arthur, 2010)”

  19. Facebook seeking opinions • Benson, Nebraska The Dundee community stood together and the City Council told CVS to take a hike. What business or type of business does Benson need? What current Benson businesses/properties need to go? • Benson, Nebraska The Omaha World Herald is doing a story on walking clubs. Are there any walking clubs in Benson (large or small)? • From the Benson, Nebraska Facebook page

  20. Community Pride • “We have representatives from, and work within, nearly every neighborhood and business association in the Alliance area.  We actively promote local causes, businesses, schools, and associations through this network.  We helped to create the Cole Creek neighborhood association, by promoting the need for and benefits of an association in the area where the Alliance had led a $1.6 million stream restoration and stormwater mitigation project.  Cole Creek will eventually be a outdoor learning environment for local schools, residents, and officials and professionals in the Papio Watershed, as well as a beautiful and unique destination within the community.  We have promoted the revitalization of the Downtown Benson area through the MapleStreet Corridor Project.  The end goal of this project is the beautification of this area so that it becomes an inviting area for new business development and a source of pride for the local merchants and residents.  (Troy Arthur, 2010). “

Gray  • City Council • Ben Gray

  25. Political Concerns • “Currently, I know of no pending local legislation that is of concern to our organization.  The Benson BID re-do goes before the City Council on Sept 28th for approval and should pass. On a greater socio-economic scale, current federal legislation that would deter private investment in business would be a concern.  Tax law changes and gov’t health care laws may support some residents within the community but would lead to a reduction in the # and size of small businesses (our top employers) within the Alliance.  This ultimately would outweigh any benefits received by the un-insured or under-insured or those in low income jobs or on public welfare rolls. (Troy Arthur, 2010) “
