  2. As I watched the ladies working on their looms, I saw the brightly woven fabric emerge.

  3. loom (noun) • a device on which thread or yarn is woven

  4. The Navajo demonstration on hogans, was as interesting as “Extreme Makeover Home Edition”.

  5. hogan (noun) • a Navajo house made of sticks and branches covered with earth

  6. When we visited the Grand Canyon, our guide told us that the arroyos would fill up with water when it rained.

  7. arroyos (noun) • deep ditches made by streams

  8. All builders want to use wood that is not warped or damaged so the walls are straight.

  9. warped (verb) • turned or twisted out of shape

  10. While sitting in the stands for the championship basketball game, I was incredulous when the shortest player on our team made a basket from center court.

  11. incredulous (adjective) • showing doubt or disbelief

  12. It was fascinating to watch the interpreter sign to the deaf student during the lecture.

  13. interpreter (noun) • A person who translates from one language to another

  14. Because of the settling of the West, a significant number of Native Americans were forced to move to a reservation to live.

  16. We went to a Greek restaurant for dinner and one of the more unusual food items was mutton.

  18. My grandmother loves plants but sometimes forgets to water them so we give her cactus and yucca plants.

  20. Sometimes, freshmen in college are concerned about how they will like being in a dormitory with a roommate.

  22. Our elderly Aunt needs a companion when she goes out because she is in a wheelchair.

  23. Companion • a friend or acquaintance who you associate with yourself or assists.

  24. While camping in the mountains, we saw a huge black bear lumbering through the trees near our campsite.

  25. Lumbering (v) • to move in a slow, heavy, awkward way.
