  3. Where have we got to? Signed funding agreement – Ed Balls In the design stage. Appointing Principal July 2010 On site March 2011 Open September 2012.

Aston University Engineering Academy, Birmingham • New Build for September 2012 600 post 14 students • All students to have industrial sponsor and university engineering student mentor • Personalised engineering curriculum • Problem based learning led by industrial partners • International School partners China /Germany/US/New Z

  5. What qualifications will students be studying 14-16? • Engineering Diploma • English • Maths • ICT • Physics • Chemistry • German or Mandarin • Sport/Drama/Music • EON Fantasy • Football • Energy Experience • Formula 1

  6. Post 16 Qualifications • Apprenticeships • Engineering Diploma • Physics, Maths and Chem A level • Range of Technological and Business Options NVQ/BTec options which can be taken as specialist learning within the Diploma • There will be no Humanities or Art A level options in the academy Germany or Mandarin will be available as a 16+ option through Aston University

Engineering Topics and teaching zones/themes area. • Lasers /Optics/ Photonics Communication/ Mathematical Modelling • Metrology and Tribolgy Importance of Measurement Wear/Lubrication/Bearings/ Engineering Modelling • Design/Selection of Materials Stress Analysis/ Structures Failure/ Corrosion/ Testing

Engineering Topics and teaching zones/themes area. • Soil Mechanics/Fluid mechanics /Hydraulics/Wind tunnel/ Mathematical modelling/Baths • Electrical/Circuit/Theory/ Electronics/Robotics/Motors/ Actuators • Energy/Heat Pumps/Carbon Extraction/Wind and Solar Power/ Heat Transfer/Thermodynamics
