  2. St. Nicholas Eve happens onDec, 6 all of the children leave one shoe out for St. Nicholas to either leave candy if they are good or twigs if they are bad Christmas

  3. On January 6 boys dress up to mark the visit of the three kings to Jesus. Germans put candles on their tree branches. Christmas tree was usually reserved for a special unveiling only on ChristmasEve On the twelfth day of Christmas they eat king cake. Go out Christmas caroling The Germans call the time from December 1st to December 24th "Adventszeit", which means the time before Christmas Eve Traditions

Foods • A traditional Christmas dinner consists of a baked goose with potatoes and vegetables but different regions of Germany have developed their own specialties over the years. • Christmas pie and mincemeat pie And eggnog. • Dinner is served after presents have been unwrapped • The most traditional of the baked goods is Lebkuchen. Other wonderful tasty seasonal baked goods are Vanilla Scones or Vanille Kipferln, Christstollen, Linzer Sterne (by Schwarzwald-Tage.de), Marzipantorte, Rumkugeln, Dominosteine, Cinnamon Stars or Zimtsterne

  5. Colors Everything appears in red and dark green - the colors of "Weihnachten" in Germany.

  6. Did you know… • It is a widely held belief that Martin Luther, the sixteenth-century Protestant reformer, first added lighted candles to a tree. Walking toward his home one winter evening, composing a sermon, he was awed by the brilliance of stars twinkling among the evergreens. To recapture the scene for his family, he erected a tree in the main room and wired its branches with lighted candles • Shops are open much of the day and celebrations do not start before the afternoon.

Did You Know • Pre-Christmas time begins with St. Martin's Day on November 11, then goes on to St. Andreas' on November 30, then forth to St. Barbara's and St. Nikolaus' on December 4-6, really approaching Christmas with St. Lucia's on December 13 and St. Thomas' on December 21, and finishing the holiday time with Three Kings and Epiphany on January 6th
