  2. AOSA Mission • The AOSA acts as a link between Optometry Students and Organized Optometry • Educate Students on Current Optometric Issues and Current Events • The Local AOSA Chapter host a number of Events throughout the year

Welcome to American Optometric Association As a student of optometry, your membership with the American Optometric Association (AOA) is complimentary and is contingent upon your status as an active member of the American Optometric Student Association (AOSA). AOA offers many benefits to its student members. The AOA is a federation of state, student and armed forces optometric associations. Through these affiliations, the AOA serves members consisting of optometrists, students of optometry, paraoptometric assistants and technicians. Together, the AOA and its affiliates work to provide the public with quality vision and eye care.

The AOSA at a Glance “The AOSA is committed to promoting the optometric profession, enhancing the education and welfare of optometry students, as well as enhancing the vision and ocular health of the public” The AOSA represents over 6,000 students attending the 19 schools and colleges of optometry and now adding 3 new school, one of which is you!!

Elections for Trustee • The essence of being a Trustee is to be the link from each of the respective schools to the AOSA on a national level. • Trustees are responsible for maintaining student membership and promoting membership after graduation. • Trustees also promote Optometry's Meeting, the annual AOSA-AOA joint conferences that are held in various cities across America. • Trustees serve as representitives from each school and act as messengers of current national optometric issues.

  9. The American Optometric Association Policital Action Committee • AOA-PAC is concerned with the political arena and the effects of politics on optometry. Optometry is a legislated profession, thus falls under state and federal rules and regulations. AOA-PAC provides an overview of the importance of involvement in the political process. AOA-PAC raises voluntary funds from ODs across the country and supports candidates who sit on key committees affecting the profession. • Insurance Discrimination • 36 Million NEW Patients now have Medical Access to an Optometrist since 2002 • Advocate Funding for Vision Science Research • Funding to Optometry has Quadrupled in last 10 Years !! http://www.optometryscareercenter.org/
