  4. What is an accreditation body? • Delegated responsibility for managing energy assessors ( previously called certification schemes) • Purpose is to accredit energy assessors who are ‘fit and proper’ persons, by: • Checking that they are appropriately qualified • Police checked (CRB or Basic Disclosure) • Insurance • Annual licence renewal • Check the quality and consistency of reports by auditing work • Developing standard forms • CPD and updating conventions to DEA

  5. Auditing • Monitoring is a crucial part of DEA • It is important to understand why you must adhere to the audit requirements • Failing to supply audits can result in your membership being suspended • Failing to supply adequate information can also result in an automatic fail • Accreditation schemes are required to carry out a minimum audit of 2% of all lodgements • Participate in developing conventions

  6. What Are Conventions? • Conventions set standard terms of practice and allow for the specification of non-standard items/entries • They standardise the assessment process, in that every assessor will be following the same conventions, meaning they should arrive at the same conclusion for a particular circumstance • Generally, they set out the rules and parameters of certain aspects of a survey • They are in place to provide clarity on any ‘grey’ areas that could be open to interpretation

  7. Licence and accreditation • Software is free • Lodgment fees – between £4 and £7, this may include ‘Landmark’ fees for national database management • Maybe free membership with some accreditation schemes? Homework 1 – Check accreditation websites and prices to choose which scheme you want to go for Homework 2- Look at the ‘Sampling and Cloning’ training slides and make notes so you understand this concept and also it will help you with templates for your ’One-off’ letters

Nothing in this Schedule shall be construed as requiring a DEA to— • Inspect such parts of the property as are not reasonably accessible on the day of the inspection; or • Move furniture, fittings or personal items at the property during an inspection. • Only report what they see on the site visit and not any promises of future installations that a property owner proposes

  11. Workplace Legislation for DEAs • Health & Safety at work Act • Data Protection Act – must keep records for 15 years • Confidentiality • Security • Lone working • Insurance requirements • Complaints

  12. You are required to complete 10 hours of CPD for DEA • The following are all considered acceptable forms of CPD: • New product ranges • Particular property types in an individual's area of work (e.g. system build, thatch) • Any certificated lecture/ presentation on products and services • New innovations that are not fundamental to the role they are undertaking • Renewable Technologies • Improvement in the use of IT skills and/ or written records • You will need to supply satisfactory evidence of your CPD such as a certificate of attendance or email with dates etc.

  13. WHAT ISN'T ACCEPTABLE? The following are not acceptable forms of CPD: • Training courses (leading to certification) • Software changes • Changes in building regulations • Changes in DCLG guidance • These are all considered fundamental learning in order to practice as a DEA, and therefore do not count as further development
