  3. Style • Themes/Motifs I am a typed director. If I made Cinderella, the audience would immediately be looking for a body in the coach. He made well over 50 feature films in his Career from 1926-1976. Though the genre of these films widely varied from Crime, to black comedies to straight up Dramas, he had a distinct style He is mostly remembered for his tendency to often make films dealing heavily with deviant, macabre topics. And above all his impeccable ability to create suspense using various film techniques. He was, essentially, the (then) modern day equivalent to Edgar Allan Poe. Hitchcock was one of the most prominent mainstream directors to tackle horror in the psychological sense. • His horror and suspense was not typically supernatural, but instead dealt with modern day fears. • He took everyday circumstances and twisted them in such a way that made them distorted and threatening.
