The Brand that Makes Children Happy!The Impact- 2008-2010 • To date Surf Excel has been the first brand to actively promote and implement the ECE program and the new National Curriculum (ECE NC)2007 in Pakistan .. • Surf Excel’s campaign ‘dirt is good’ is an evidence/research based program that believes and promotes experiential learning for the very young ..motivating caregivers and teachers to let children play! • It has partnered with parks and schools in the districts of Karachi; Rawalpindi and Lahore to install discovery based children’s play spaces – child friendly and safe for having fun! • 10,000 copies of the ECE NC 2007 in Urdu & English have been printed and disseminated, including 1000 to the Ministry of Education- reaching 8000 schools, 800,000 children in Katchi or preschool and over 1 million children in Katchi & grade 1!

The Impact! • From 2008-2012, 1400 teachers from 1200 schools (70% govt. 30% private) have been trained through this support – a 3 day teachers training and in selected schools follow up program • Each school has been provided an ECE aao mil kay seikhain kit – literacy, numeracy discovery areas as well as a four book library • 1000 splat kits developed by Surf Excel have been distributed • The districts covered: Lahore; Rawalpindi; Multan; Rahim Yar Khan; Muzzafargarh; Ghotki still to be done (due to floods.. 150 teachers) • Surf Excel NC ECE training and kits supported children and communities in need by reaching out to the Emergency districts in 2009 and 2010 : Swabi; Charsadda; Ghotki; Rahim Yar Khan; Multan; Muzaffargarh; Mianwali ..Covering 31 Healing Learning Centres in IDPs/Shelters • In 2009 the Swabi Shah Mansoor Shelter was provided a complete children’s play area for 500 children (ages 3- 12) • In 2009/10 10 outstanding teachers from across Pakistan won the World Teachers’ Day Anita Ghulam Ali Award for ECE – the real brand ambassadors from Chitral – Zhob- Murree- Lahore- Karachi- Malir !

Three Day Teachers’ Training Workshop On ECE In District RYK & Muzzafargarh IdaraTaleem –o- Aagahi (ITA) organized a series of trainings for teachers of Early Childhood Education (ECE) in multiple venues across all five districts named RYK, LHR, MZG,Multan and Rawalpindi from october 2008 to November, 2010. Supported by: Corporate Social Responsibility/Unilever Pakistan. The selection of venues and nomination of participants was done with the cooperation of EDOs in all Districts, and Mr. Abdul Jawwad, Deputy Director Planning, Directorate of Staff Development(DSD) and his RPM team, the apex Government in-service training institutions. Trainings were held at the Cluster Teacher Support Centers (CTSCs) located in government high schools at eight locations.

  10. Cont……. Attended by: 1298 participants. 60% GOVT. 40% Private schools. The participants were nominated from Govt, Private and PEF Supported schools so that each one could share their new learning with their colleagues to have a far reaching multiplier effect. Each participant received: An ECE learning kit along with the ECE Curriculum, Manual and guidelines, A colorful assortment of hands-on learning material for literacy, numeracy and enquiry and Wonder! Certificates awarded to workshop participants

  11. Cont…… . The response from the participants was overwhelming. There were requests for more such trainings through partnerships as all the concepts were new for the attending teachers, shared in highly child-centric approaches.
