  3. Current Challenges with EMS • Complex coding schemes (to suit multiple business areas) • Out of date Technology • Lack of regular formal training and current documentation • Difficulties with EDT (Electronic Data Transfer) Data uploading

EMS Re-development Project • EMS challenges have been recognized for a number of years, and year after year it’s been reported that re-development of EMS would start in about 2 years • Work began in late 2008 with “Conceptual Requirements” • “Re-development” started in September 2009 • Work is now being conducted under the oversight of a Working Group

Recent EMS Improvements • EMS 4.4.1 (EMS Forms) Released March 25, 2009 • New Requisition Audit Feature added to EMS • EMS Search works like Google now • Requisition Instructions printed on the back of Req forms • Results Extract Load/Save Template of selected columns fixed • Google Earth added as a valid Geo Reference Source for Monitoring Location LAT/LONGs • EMS 4.4.2 (EDT) Released April 9, 2009 • EDT Confirmation Messages include line number and specific details on file format errors • Reduced ERROR to just a WARNING when a mismatched sample descriptor is loaded

  10. Recent Project Activity – High-Level Needs Analysis 1. Requisition Form Software Requirement Specifications • New technology for interface • Multiple sites per requisition • Future support for electronic requisition submission to lab • Future support for printing sample bottle labels • New requisition forms for air filter samples to UBC 2. EDT Software Requirement Specifications • New technology for interface, reverse compatible (able to accept old file format) • Modern standard exchange file formats like XML • Immediate feedback on upload file's QA • Simplified ERROR and WARNING messages 3. Monitoring Location Creation Software Requirement Specifications • Discussions in progress • Eliminate existing problems associated with site creation in EMS • Allow site creation prior to visiting it and obtaining it's LAT/LONG by GPS • Offer a map-based interface to help obtain LAT/LONG information • Remove restrictions so users can create and edit sites in multiple regions 4. EMS Web Reporting Refresh • Bring up to modern standards and make Web Reporting the preferred data portal

A: Runner Up: Kootenays (64 = 3%) A: Winner: Cariboo (only 30 = 1%) – however, how many are fake? 5. Which region has almost twice as many sites with fake or suspectlat/longs, as ALL OTHER REGIONS COMBINED? A: Omineca Peace (994 sites)
