    2. Vowels are different from consonants in the production of the air . In vowels, the air is free, and there is no obstruction while in consonants there is obstruction of air. Examples : Book & apple.

    3. Vowels differ from each other in the following aspects: Height Backness Roundness Length of the sound

    4. 1.Height refers to the vertical position of the tongue . Vowels can be : 1-high or 2- low High vowels are also called close. Low vowels are also called open vowels.

    5. 2.The position of the tongue or backness refers to the horizontal tongue position. vowels are categorized into : 1- Front vowels. 2- Back vowels. 3-Central vowels.

    6. 3.Roundedness refers to whether the lips are rounded or not. Rounded: produced with rounded lips [u]. Spread : corners of the lips moved away from each other as for smile [i]. Neutral: lips are not rounded or spread.

    7. 4. The length of the sound 1- short vowels . 2-long vowels
