  2. Ohio’s Assessment System The Screener - This test will be used for all new students entering during the school year and for the entire class in the spring. The use of the diagnostic test - This test will be used when problems have been seen with the use of the screener and more information is needed. 1

  3. Screening Measures - Reading • Kindergarten: N/A • First Grade:This section will be given individually to all students. The testing schedule will be the week of March 29 - April 2. A substitute teacher will be in the classroom as the homeroom teacher administers the test in a different location. • Second Grade:This section will be given in a group session. The testing will take place in the spring. 2

  4. Screening Measures - Writing Kindergarten: N/A First Grade: Whole class in the spring • prewriting - 15 min • writing - 30 min Second Grade: Whole class in the spring • prewriting - 15 min • writing - 30 min 3

  5. Screening Measures - Math Kindergarten: N/A First Grade: This test is given individually. Testing time will be Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday the week of February 23-27. A substitute will be needed to cover these days. Second Grade: This test is given whole group and individually. A substitute will be needed on April 6 to provide time for the individual part of the screener. 4

  6. How Did We Get Here? We started in October reviewing the material given by the state. We then concentrated on completing the POP’s required by PEERS. In January we were ready to determine the time line to administer the screener to each grade level k-2. It was then noted that the Kindergarten teachers would not be giving the screener this year. 5

  8. Recommendations • Schedules -It was decided that the spring would be the best time to use the screener this year. After the testing, the group will revisit their findings to see if this schedule is recommended for next year. • Substitutes -Substitutes will be necessary for first and second grades. • Scoring and Recording -Scoring and recording will be done by the individual teacher at the time of testing in math, but would require extra time to evaluate the answers for the writing and reading sections. • Staff Development Hours -It was asked if we could receive S.D. hours for the time spent grading and scoring tests if done outside of the school day and for preparing our room each year for the Saxon math program. 7
