  1. Villanovan peoples lived in the areas of green. Living during the time of the Iron Age, 12th century B.C. The Etruscans came from these peoples or are the result of invasion from the north or the Near East.

  2. Etruscan civilization is the modern English name given to the culture and way of life of a people of ancient Italy and Corsica, residing between the Apennines and the River Tiber, whom the ancient Romans called Etrusci or Tusci. Modern day Tuscany comes from this name also. 800-100 BC

  3. The Etruscans had their own language and the civilization endured from an unknown prehistoric time prior to the founding of Rome until its complete assimilation to Italic Rome in the Roman Republic which started in 509 B.C.

  4. During the 7th century, the Greeks infiltrated Italy in such great numbers that this area became known as Magna Graecia pink = Etruscans yellow = Greeks

  5. The Etruscans: influence Expanded: mainland and western Mediterranean Sea. due to mining metal: copper & iron

  6. Due to expansion, problems: Collided with Phoceans, who are Greeks

  7. Etruscans allied themselves with Carthaginians Who also collided with the Greeks

  8. The naval Battle of Alalia between 540 BC and 535 BC off the coast of Corsica between Phocaeans and allied Etruscans and Carthaginians. The Punic-Etruscan fleet of 120 ships defeated the Greek force of sixty ships

  9. nearby colony of Alalia (now Aléria) was taken over by the Etruscans. Corsica was shared by the Carthaginians and Etruscans, Carthage retained Sardinia. France Aleria, Corsica
