Hubris. Definition . Hubris is essentially arrogance shown toward the gods. Someone who exhibits hubris often has excessive pride or self-confidence. Today, we might describe someone who reveals attributes of hubris as “pompous” or “full of him or herself.”

Definition • Hubris is essentially arrogance shown toward the gods. • Someone who exhibits hubris often has excessive pride or self-confidence. • Today, we might describe someone who reveals attributes of hubris as “pompous” or “full of him or herself.” • When we read the Odyssey, you will see that Odysseus portrays hubris throughout the epic, which subsequently determines his fate.

  3. Examples of Hubris from HGM • Now get with a partner near you, and come up with at least three examples of hubris you can recall from your reading of Heroes, Gods, and Monsters. • I will call on a few sets of partners to share with the class.
