Learning Objectives • As a result of this presentation, you will learn how to: • Load data into a PICK file from the PC • Extract data from PICK to your PC • Create a spreadsheet from a PICK file • We will discuss: • Other data extraction methods available • Terminal emulators that can assist in data transfer

  5. Presentation Agenda • Introduce the functionality of the smart terminal emulator • Demonstrate moving PC data to PICK • Demonstrate moving PICK data to the PC • Creating a spreadsheet using the tools in a smart terminal emulator • Discussion of other methods like using BASIC to extract data and create emailed spreadsheet • Discussion of other terminal emulators that assist in data transfer

  6. Data Transfer with cut & paste • Most terminal emulators have this functionality • Demonstration of taking data off the screen and pasting into Excel • Demonstration of cutting data from Excel and pasting into a record with ED

  7. Tools to move data • Use tools built into AccuTerm • Demonstrate screen capture to a PC file • Demonstrate AccuTerm Data Transfer Wizard

  8. Smart Emulators • Emulators with smart data transfer require installation of software on PICK host • The emulators with this type of wizard are: wIntegrate, ViaDuct-FX, and AccuTerm

  9. Other methods for extracting data • Custom software using BASIC and PERL • Developed for Universe on Linux • BASIC extracts and formats data with parameters for PERL script • PERL script takes tab delimited data and creates formated spreadsheet which is emailed to list of addresses • Great solution of generation of reports in nightly processing

  10. Lets discuss how you do it • What methods have you found that help extract and report in electronic formats? • What has worked well? • What methods should others avoid? • What emulator do you like and why?
