  4. Issues it causes Globally Nearly 1 billion people don’t have access to clean and safe water Diseases U.S. • At least 36 states are expected to face water shortages in the next 5 years • Price for ensuring a reliable water supply could be staggering

  5. Population impacted Up to half of humanity has one of the six main diseases received from water Ex. Diarrhea, schistosomaisis, trachoma, infestation with ascaris, guinea worm, or hookworm. 5 million people die from poor drinking water each year Developing countries are most impacted

  8. Water Conservation Reuse water Support water agencies – promote recycling and reclamation systems Reduce water loss- improve maintenance of water delivery systems

  9. Water Conservation cont. Manage water better Put aside money for better water facilities- upgrading pipes- 300 billion dollars over 30 years invest in new crop varieties Improve irrigation efficiency
