What is a digital story
What is a digital story?

  • A series of still or moving images combined with narration or a soundtrack to tell a story

  • Uses technology capture visual images to tell stories and display to a wider audience

  • The technology is the vehicle for the story – the focus is on the writing and communication process rather than technical effects

  • Write an initial script/story (use Inspiration to brainstorm)

  • Plan using a storyboard

  • Discuss and revise the script

  • Take the photos and download to the editor

  • Sequence the images and add the narration

  • Add special effects and transitions

  • Add a suitable soundtrack

  • Make your own notes on a teacher rubric for teacher assessment

  • Rubrics show links to curriculum learning outcomes, success criteria and essential skills in graduated stages – levels

  • Allow for the fact that this takes time!

  • You need several sessions to achieve quality digital stories

  • You need to set the scene by promoting the key aspects of effective collaborative learning – taking turns – assuming roles – listening to others points of view – commitment to shared outcome

  • The teachers role is a guide on the side! Let children learn by making their own decisions
