  3. Effect:East India Company gains control of India Cause: • In 1757 Robert Clive leads troops over Indians @ the Battle of Plassey

  4. Cause:British establish a R.R. network in India. Effect: • R.R.’s transport raw & Unfinished materials • India becomes very profitable for Britain

  5. Effect:Villagers are no longer self-sufficient; food production declines and famine sets in. Cause: • British restrict Indian owned industries • Britain reduces food production in favor of cash crops

  6. Cause:Sepoy Mutiny occurs & uprisings spread over much of Northern India. Effect: • Britain assumes direct control of India • Racism & Distrust Grows

  7. Effects:Indians form Indian National Congress & the Muslim League, which eventually call for self-government. Causes: • Reformers want India to Modernize • Increased Nationalist Feelings • Resent British Discrimination

  8. Causes:British partition Bengal into Hindu & Muslim sections Effects: • Terrorism forces Britain to divide India in order to avoid rebellion.
