  1. Cold weather is a bummer! We will not be going out for recess as long as it is this cold. But, please send coats and jackets with your child! Our new Social Studies unit is all about Westward Expansion. We will review what happened to our country after the Revolutionary War and then learn about what happened as new territory was gained. Important Dates: January 6 Report Cards go home January 8 Signed Reports Cards should be in January 14 Community Service Awards January 18 No School/ MLK Jr. Day January 21 Title I Parent Night at Hoover Library January 27 Class Pictures January 28 Curriculum Night Watson’s Words Reminders: If you want your child to have a copy of Alabama Moon, please send $5.60 to school with your child. We will begin reading this book next week! From the Teacher’s Desk Welcome back! I hope you all had a nice break. I know I did! While it can be hard to face reality again, it is a pleasure to be with your kiddos. We are changing expectations as we enter the last phase of elementary school for your children! Some New Expectations: Any paper with no name will not be graded. Missing homework and class-work receives a zero. I will ask for a big project once with a reminder, then it is a zero. We all know the basic classroom rules by now…we are going to do them all well!  Notes will be sent home to be signed and returned for anyone not willing to follow classroom rules. Please remind your child of his or her responsibilities as a 5th grader…ALMOST middle -schooler. There will be similar and stricter expectations next year. Getting used to them now will make the transition much easier. We are still focused on multiplication. We will move to division next. Congratulations to Luke for being our class Spelling Bee winner!!! www.stwatson.wiki.hoover.k12.al.us stwatson@hoover.k12.al.us
