  2. Free the Hops Free the Hops is a grassroots non-profit organization whose mission is to help bring quality beer to the state of Alabama and campaign to change brewing laws for local brewers and homebrewers. Currently, the Free the Hops website (www.freethehops.org/) features helpful information about beer and brewing in Alabama; however, it does not include a search function to help users find local breweries in the state.

  3. Local Brewery Database I created a database that lists all local breweries, taprooms, and brewpubs in the states of Alabama to help users find a local establishment. Using my database, users can find a local establishment (brewery, taproom, or brewpub) breweries for an area of Alabama (North, Central, or South) or by city. Once they find a brewery, they can find the address or website for that brewery.

  4. Database Tables Six database tables were added to correctly list and link the brewery name, address, city, area, website with brewery type. On the left, you’ll see an image of the Brewery table, which includes a majority of the linked data.

  5. Table relationships Relationships were created among all pertinent pieces of information. For example, brewery names were linked to the appropriate address, website, brewery type, and area. Addresses were linked to cities and areas.

  6. SQL queries To test the database structure, two queries were created. On the right, you’ll see the query to list the taprooms available in Birmingham, Alabama and their corresponding street addresses. The results display in the table on the right.

  7. Sql queries The second query searches for all Huntsville, Alabama brewpubs with their websites. Results of the query display in the table on on the right.

  8. Adding the database to Free the Hops • I propose adding a search box to the Free the Hops homepage in the top right corner to help users search for a local brewer. • Users can search for a brewery’s name or a city name. • Results would display on a second page, listing the brewery’s website and street address.

  9. Search box on Free the Hops website The search box would help users search for local breweries

  10. Search results on Free the Hops Website Search results could list the street address and website for the searched city or brewery name.
