  2. Definition • The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines depression as a psychological problem that causes extreme sadness, not doing anything about it, and feelings of loneliness (Mish 193).

  3. Depression and its causes • Depression can be caused by a number of things like family problems, school, and peer pressure.

  4. Family Problems If there is a major event happening in someone’s home life like a death or a divorce or money problems, it can seriously get the student depressed (White depression.org).

  5. School • Problems at school can cause depression like grades and teachers (Brown 56). Depression

  6. Peer Pressure • Peer Pressure is also something that can cause depression because some kids don’t know how to handle it and they don’t know who they can talk to about it (Gray 89).

  7. Possible solutions • Families should keep all lines of communication open. • Kids should talk to guidance counselors about their grades and about peer pressure (Black help.org).
