  1. Iron Forge Educational Center: U.S. Green Building Council CertificationThermal Storage and Displacement Ventilation Project Update 6/2/14

  2. Silver Certification by US Green Building Council or 2 Green Globe Certification for Additional 10% base Reimbursement from the PA Department of Education For Iron Forge, this is estimated as an additional $230,000 reimbursement for the project.

  3. USGBC- LEED Certification 5 Primary Areas of Focus • Energy Efficiency • Targeting 25-35% More Efficient than National Average • Energy Modeling will be completed in next 2-3 weeks • Mechanical System • Thermal Envelope • Daylighting • LED Lighting • Interior & Exterior • Occupancy Sensors • Building Commissioning • Indoor Environmental Quality • Indoor Air Quality • Thermal Comfort • Lighting Controls • Acoustics • Daylight • Low-Emitting Materials

  4. Displacement Ventilation: Reduces energy use for Air Handling by 25%-30% More efficient air mixing Reduction in air handling equipment and ductwork size Associated reduction in power distribution Less noticeable air movement Supply air at a lower temperature difference from room air

  5. Thermal StorageTour of East Stroudsburg Area School District 6 Buildings with Ice Storage for the past 25 years • Advantages • Generate and store cooling capacity during off-peak hours • Chiller run at night will not create sound in vicinity of Children and Outdoor Play. • Chiller operation more efficient at night (cooler temps). • Reduced Cycling of Chiller • Longer life expectancy of system • Reduction in chiller plant size • Approximately 1/3 Typical Size • When chiller breaks, will provide repair window without much reduced capacity. • Ice Storage acts as the chiller during the day.

  6. PennDOT Safety Concerns • Site Lines (Arnold St. Entrance) • More than 1,500 students being educated on (3) building campus. Entrance • Highway Occupancy Permit is not required • Emergency Services Input • Restore 1968 Fountain Still in Place • Evening Event Parking & Egress (Removable Bollards) • Site Drainage, ability to take advantage of previous upstream district projects that have mitigated stormwater design & costs. • Playfields Design Development Site Plan • Compressed (2) Story Addition to minimize Stormwater Impact & Maximize Site Use Key Plan • SEPARATION OF TRAFFIC • Bus Drop-Off • Parent/ Visitor • Staff Parking • Service Delivery • H.S./ M.S. Traffic • District Support • Pedestrian/ Bike

  7. First Floor Plan • DESIGN FEATURES • 3/4/5 Grade Pods • Centralized Library • Compressed Footprint • Increased Instructional Time • Increased Energy Efficiency • Flexibility • (Classroom Parity) • Learning Support within each Grade Pod. • Adequate Small Group Instruction • Daylighting • 3 Zones to Building (Zoned Security) • 3rd-5th Grade • Athletic/ Music • District Support • Community Use • Ability to Sector Building for Safety and Energy Use Future Addition (30-40 Years) Key Plan

  8. Future Addition (30-40 Years) Classroom Wing 1st & 2nd Floors 1st Floor Plan Future Addition (30-40 Years) Key Plan 2nd Floor Plan
