  2. NORCEL - The Norwegian Nanocellulose Technology Platform • One of five main research projects in NANO2021. • Managed by Paper and Fibre Research Institute (PFI). • Three application areas: • Paper and packacing. • Petroleum industry (enhanced oil recovery, EOR) • Tissue engineering Sigurd Rolland Pettersen (sigurd.r.pettersen@ntnu.no), 8th NTNU NanoLab Symposium, November 12th 2013

  3. Composite hydrogels with cellulose nanofibrils Ellinor B. Heggseta, Olav Aarstadb, Ina S. Pedersenb, Berit L. Strandb and Kristin Syveruda • Collaboration between PFIa and the Department of Biotechnology, NTNUb • Structure-function relationship in cellulose nanofibril – alginate composite hydrogels

  4. H O O C O H O HO OH H O Alginate O H O H Alginates are a family of linear binary copolymers consisting of 1 4 --L-guluronic acid (G) and 1 4 --D-mannuronicacid (M) O H O O C O H • Structural component in marine brown algae. Gives strength and flexibility. • Capsular component in some bacteria e.g. Azotobacter vinelandii and several species of Pseudomonas GulA HO ManA
