  2. Introduction • “If – Then” statements are common in the Bible! • It is a statement that proves if something happens then some consequence will follow, a truth is established, or an action required • Examples: • IfJim lives in California, then he lives West of the capitol of the US. • IfJim passes the exam, then he will graduate! • Such statements teach many truths in the scriptures and used by Jesus and the Apostles. • We will study some “if-then” statements in the Bible in this lesson!

  3. Genesis 13:1-9 • Vs. 9 – “Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me. If you take the left, then I will go to the right; or, if you go to the right, then I will go to the left” (NKJV). • Abram gave Lot the first choice of the land! • Shows the humility and kindness of Abram! • He knew that land would not support both! • You go your way, I will go the opposite way!

  4. Ecclesiastes 10:10 • “If the ax is dull, And one does not sharpen the edge, Then he must use more strength; But wisdom brings success” (NKJV). • One is wise who… • Sharpens a dull ax! • Who makes preparation! • Who works smarter, not harder!

  5. Exodus 19:1-5 • Vs. 5 – “Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine” (NKJV). • Israel would be blessed on the condition they obeyed the Lord’s commandments! • They would be a special people to Him! • The Lord is over all! • He created the earth and all things!

  6. Exodus 21:28-29 • “If an ox gores a man or a woman to death, then the ox shall surely be stoned, and its flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall be acquitted” (NKJV). • God required responsibility on the part of the owner! • Control dangerous animals!

  7. Leviticus 5:15 • “If a person commits a trespass, and sins unintentionally in regard to the holy things of the LORD, then he shall bring to the LORD as his trespass offering a ram without blemish from the flocks, with your valuation in shekels of silver according to the shekel of the sanctuary, as a trespass offering” (NKJV). • God’s law for pardon of a unintentional trespass!

  8. God’s Law for Women & Childbirth! • Leviticus 12:1-8: • If she gives birth to a male child, then… • She is unclean 7 days! • To circumcise the male child on the 8th day! • Days of purification for 30 days! • Not to touch a holy thing or come to the sanctuary! • If she gives birth to a female child, then… • She is unclean 14 days! • Days of purification 66 days! • After purification bring a offering to the priest!

  9. God’s Law Concerning Leprosy • Leviticus 13:1-8 • “If-Then” conditions given throughout: • Purpose was to control and quarantine this disease! • Bright spot white – isolate 7 days – vs. 4 • If it has not spread – isolate 7 more days – vs. 5 • If the scab spreads – pronounce as leprosy – vs. 8

  10. This Type of Logic Used by Jesus • When He was accused of being Satan! • Jews rejected Jesus, the Son of God! • Matthew 12:22-28 • vs. 26 – “If-Then” statement argument used by Jesus! • If one casts out his own of his house (cause), he will fail! • If the Jews cast out (reject) Jesus the Christ, they would fail! • vs. 28 - “If-Then” statement argument used again by Jesus! • Proved the Kingdom of God would come! • He had power over devils! • He had power over the Jews - children of the devil! • John 8:31-44 • He had power over the resurrection! • He had all power! • Matt. 28:18

  11. John 8:31 • “Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed.” • We must keep (obey & teach) His word to be a disciple of Him. • Converse to this – If we do not keep His word, then we are not His disciples! • John 14:15, 21, 23; 15:10, 14; 8:42 • 1 John 2:4-5; 3:24; 5:3

  12.
