  2. Jesse Jackson • Civil Rights leader. • Came out of the student movement from North Carolina A & T College.

  3. SNCC • Organization of students that was led by Ella Baker. • Stands for Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. • Formed in 1960.

  4. Main Issue of the SNCC • The main issue for the SNCC was registering the African Americans from the Deep South to vote.

  5. Freedom Riders • They were teams of African Americans and whites. • They traveled on interstate buses to the south to draw attention to the South’s refusal to integrate bus terminals. • When they came to Birmingham they were attacked.

  6. Eugene “Bull” Connor • He had the KKK (Ku Klux Klan) attack the Freedom Riders. • The day that the Freedom Riders got attacked by the KKK he gave the police the day off.

  7. JFK • Had just became the President of the U.S. when all of this happened.
