Industrial Use • Potassium hydroxide (KOH)- a strong base used in industry to neutralize strong and weak acids • Potassium nitrate (KNO3)- obtained from natural sources and is an important agricultural fertilizer • Potassium cyanide (KCN)- is used industrially to dissolve copper and precious metals • Potassium carbonate (K2CO3)- is used in the manufacture of glass, soap, color TV tubes, lamps, textiles dyes and pigments • Potassium permanganate (KMnO4)-is an oxidizing, bleaching and purification substance and is used for production • Potassium chlorate (KClO3) –is added to matches and explosives

  6. Agricultural Use Potassium is essential for plant growth. Plants require large amounts of potassium. Potassium is retained in the straw, or stem, of crops. Potassium plays more roles in a plant then any other nutrient. It doesn’t become a direct part of the plant structure, but acts to regulate water balances, nutrient and sugar movement in plant tissue and legume nitrogen fixation. Potassium is highly mobile within the plant . A crop may move potassium from old leaves to new part. Many factors interfere with crap uptake of potassium including free lime on the rooting zone, cool soil temperatures, shallow rooting, poor drainage and soil compaction.

  7. Home Usage • Potassium is in many household items and mainly all of the product are cleaners or disinfectors. Probably the products would all be liquids and harmful for children to poses them. Potassium is also in facial cleaners for women's beauty and also for hair products like hairspray , conditioner, shampoo and lotion. In shampoo and conditioner is mostly in the brand Pantene.
