  1. Data has to be verified MS Word defines Verify as .................. • Verification • Verification is a check to ensure that the data entered exactly matches the original source. • There are three main methods of verification: • Double Entry • Proof Reading Data • Parity VERIFICATION

  2. Double Entry The data typed in on one PC is checked by the com- puter software to make sure it is the same. £30.00 £12.90 £45.99 The data typed in on one PC is checked by the com- puter software to make sure it is the same. £30.00 £12.90 £45.90 VERIFICATION £45.99 £45.90

  3. Double Entry • Double entry (typing the data in twice and comparing the two copies) - This can take much more time and means higher wage costs. • Either there are two people inputting the same data – OR • The data is input twice by the same person VERIFICATION

  4. Proof Reading Insert an apostrophe Checking the data after it is input is called proof reading. Theres a recognised shorthand of cymbals which are used to show speling mistakes and omissions and additions. These are marked by the proof reader and then sent back for correction. The correctinsanre rechecked again. Proof readers are paid in the region of £150n per huor. ‘ l VERIFICATION Insert an letter Delete a word o Insert a letter Delete letter Swap letters

  5. Parity Check • Used to check for transmission errors over networks or between memory and disk. • Basically this means that the computer software checks that the binary code in the message received is the same as the one sent. Clever eh? • Example (Even parity – means that the SAME number of bits are transmitted and received, not an even number) • If 11010111 is transmitted ... (6 '1' bits)and 11010011 is received ... (5 '1' bits) then the computer knows a corruption of the data has occurred. VERIFICATION

  6. Parity Check O P VERIFICATION 100100100 100100100 10010010 010010010 00001011 0010101

  7. Signature Check Data can be verified with a signature check. This will show that a person has the same signature as their verified document. VERIFICATION Signatures are the same?

  8. Iris Check An iris scan is a very good way of truly identifying whether a person is actually whop thy say they are. An Iris scan taken at the time of employment, or admission onto a flight at an airport can be checked quite quickly to tell if they are the same person. Iris checks are a form of biometric verification. VERIFICATION An iris scan being used, the scan is accurate for several years but in fact your iris can change over time. However – your ear does not! There is research being done into ear scanning! Your ears change size (they get bigger as you get older) but not shape!

  9. Ear Check Ears get bigger Particularly on chaps! VERIFICATION

  10. Finger print Check For years fingerprint scanners were in the realm of science fiction. Today however you can buy a USB fingerprint scanner for less than £100. Some laptops already have built in fingerprint scanners VERIFICATION
