Early days of the partnership • Personal connections do matter Feb. 2002 Center for Applied Ecology (Sillamäe, Estonia) proposes Hohe Tied to cooperate with a RSHU group, based on Centaurus-II • Context of a larger event may help Jun. 2002 Centaurus-II participates in Kiel Week Jun. 2003 Partnership strengthens, taking full Jun. 2004 advantage of Kiel Week

  10. Learn2care • 2008 • 9 days of work in the Gulf of Finland on Centaurus-II • 123 local teachers participated • Organisational structure set up • 2009 • Adaptation of ‘Man and Sea’ to conditions of the eastern Gulf of Finland

  11. Learn2care • 2010 • Focus on teachers : in-depth training of 30 teachers with participation of 150 pupils • Expedition toolbox: providing teachers with instruments to work within ‘Man and Sea’ • Formal education program: encouraging local teachers to use ‘Man and Sea’

  12. Acknowledgements • Lighthouse Foundation (Kiel) for supporting the practical part of Learn2care • Russian State Hydrometeorological University (St Petersburg) for supporting the ‘Man and Sea’ adaptation to conditions of the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland
