Labour MQA FET SUPPORT – PROGRAMME APPROVAL READINESS • The initial support offered was to FET Colleges wishing to obtain MQA Programme Approval status • Supported FET Colleges with • ISO 9001:200 training and grant • Assessor and Moderator training and registration grants • Internship opportunities for FET managers • Project Management training

Labour MQA FET SUPPORT – FET COLLEGE GOVERNANCE “Governance Practices in FET Colleges” and published a publication “A handbook on FET College Governance (2004)” Funded governance workshops for twelve FET College Councils Structured framework provided context for input, facilitation, discussion and resolutions

Labour MQA FET SUPPORT – PROGRAMME AND CIRRICULUM DEVELOPMENT • “Survey on the suitability and uptake of N-Programmes to provide the theory requirements for the old Apprenticeship system (2005)” • Found: • Serious misalignment between current N-Programmes and Mining Industry needs • Don’t address environmental, health and hygiene issues • Content not suitable for Learnerships • Lack of engagement largely responsible for misalignment

  27. Labour MQA FET SUPPORT – PROGRAMME AND CIRRICULUM DEVELOPMENT(3) Used GTZ Model to focuses on integration of education and training to achieve competence Companies collaborated to develop the pilot learning programme supporting the National Certificate in Electro-mechanics at NQF level 2

Labour MQA FET SUPPORT – PARTNERSHIP MODEL (1) Implemented a programme for partnership development that helps FET Colleges to develop close working relations with Mining Companies, Communities and Provincial and local Governments Aimed at Provincial Depts. of Education, College CEOs, Senior College Managers, Second tier FET College leadership
