  1. Welcome to the 2018-2019 School Year! English 10 English 12 College Prep

  2. Senior English This course will focus on the development of literature in Great Britain, starting with the Anglo-Saxons and ending with current British literature. Special emphasis will be placed on writing, culminating with writing several research papers. It is essential that students have a greater awareness of the cultural, social, and political influence of Great Britain’s literature on the United States and are able to write informatively about their knowledge.

  3. Students are to acquire an understanding of British literature, tracing its roots from the Anglo-Saxon literature through the current literature of the Great Britain. Special emphasis will be given to those works considered classics and part of the literary canon. Additionally, we will focus on writing skills, especially the research paper. They will understand how to correctly use MLA and APA documentation and cite sources within their papers. Students will gain knowledge about what constitutes plagiarism and how to avoid plagiarism in their papers.

  4. Academic Integrity will be enforced. We live in a world where personal integrity is often looked down upon and where the easy way through any given situation is looked upon as the best way. Especially now, in the information age, it is deceptively simple to take the “easy” way out of claiming another’s work as your own. I believe that academic dishonesty is one of the gravest sins a student can commit. It shows not only disrespect to me as your instructor, but for yourself and your classmates. Therefore, do your own work! Cite your sources; write your own papers; do not cheat on tests and quizzes; do not share answers. Failure to comply with these standards will result in an immediate ZERO on the assignment in question, loss of all daily work points pertaining to that assignment, and no opportunity to rewrite the assignment. Additionally, you will not be eligible for any extra credit for the quarter in which the cheating occurred.

  5. Each unit from the textbook will consist of taking notes, numerous reading assignments, and reading activities that are designed to help prepare the student for the unit exams. • Exams will range from 50 to 100 points, depending on the length of the unit. • Quizzes will be given on reading assignments, ranging in value from 5 to 50 points. • Research papers will be written, with the student learning about proper MLA and APA documentation and reviewing how to avoid plagiarism. • Several group projects will be presented on British authors and eras.

  8. College Prep English This course is designed to mirror (as much as possible) an average freshman level college course. As such, students will learn how to think critically, analyze literature effectively, present arguments logically, and communicate clearly in the appropriate format. Writing is an essential part of the collegiate world. Academic writing is a skill that must be practiced repeatedly before quality work can be produced. This year long composition course will not give students every tool that they will need, but it will be a giant step in their journeys toward excellence in academic writing. Additionally, this course will explore some of the practical aspects of college: note taking, exam preparation, study habits, time management, and organizational skills.

My policy: if your head is down on your desk, you are asleep.). Use of MP3 players, iPods, cell phones, and all other electronic devices is strictly forbidden, unless I tell you differently. Leave them in your locker, put them in the holder in the classroom, or I will confiscate them.
