What is Research in Progress (RIP)?

  • RIP is a clearing house for DOTs, UTCs and others to enter and maintain their research projects.

  • RIP exists to inform researchers of current projects so as not to duplicate research

  • A second goal is to connect researchers

    • Entering contact information


UTCs use of RIP

  • UTCs enter, update and remove their projects in RIP. Nothing is done to a project record in TRID

  • UTCs receive only one login for their institution

  • Head UTC for a consortium enters and maintains consortium project records; head UTCs receive two logins

  • Generic e-mail addresses are preferred for login credentials

  • A goal of RIP is to identify research, leaving a completed record in RIP until the final report is in TRID ensures that there is not a gap in availability


What is the TRID Database

  • TRID is a database that contains records of completed, published research, monographs and journals (not projects)

  • Materials in TRID are indexed by professional indexers who work for TRIS or are from ITRD or ATRI databases

  • The project records in TRID (noted with PROJECT) are copies of the RIP Database records and are not part of the TRID Database


When to use TRID?

  • UTCs submit electronic files or links to final, published research reports to TRID; no projects should be submitted to TRID

  • To submit a final research report, email the file or link to [email protected]


And Last…

  • DOT records are available in RIP immediately; UTC records are reviewed by a professional indexer before they are available in RIP

  • DOT/UTC records for the same project are combined into one record; a DOT will own the record but it is identified as belonging to both the DOT and the UTC

  • Acceptance of research reports for TRID

  • Training session for RIP will be held in early to mid - August
