  4. G L OACB Good Life Training Series Perceptual Blindness in the DD FieldTraditional Thinking • People in the DD system exhibit target behaviors that need to be reduced or eliminated • The role of traditional plans are to manage and control people through the manipulation of the antecedents & consequences • For the best interest of the person the use of aversive or coercive acts are applied to help them improve • Success for the person is identified as the reduction of the targeted maladaptive behaviors

  10. Coach Learning Experience # 3“Pink Bat” Thinking & Choices • The “Beginners Mind” approach will align with Pink Bat Michael McMillan reminds us that “You can live each in a world filled with “problems” or rise each morning & embrace a world filled with unseen solutions…eager for you to find them. The decision is yours***both worlds exist. The one you choose is the one you create. • Are you willing to choose & create a culture where Quality of Life for people we serve is the focus and the world we want to create.

  11. G L OACB Good Life Training Series Coach Learning Experience # 6 “Pink Bat” Thinking Challenging discussion on why “Pink Bat” thinking is important • What is life like for a person with a “BEHAVIOR PLAN” ? • What is the outcome for a person whose life is controlled, restricted & limited ? • What is the ISP experience like for families and people served ?

  12. G L OACB Good Life Training Series Coach Learning Experience # 6 “Pink Bat” Thinking • Assumptions (expert thinking) creates perceptual blindness • Traditional behavior management and the deficit based model of planning are examples of pereceptual/inattentional blindness • When people are afraid to share Pink Bat possibilities, everyone loses • In “Pink Bat” thinking a problem is really a solution waiting to be discovered

  13. G L OACB Good Life Training Series Coach Learning Experience # 6 Pink Bat Thinking • Beginners & outsiders are open to possibilities and don’t make assumptions • Just focusing on problems blocks out solutions • What you believe and focus on …becomes your reality • When people are afraid to share Pink Bat possibilities, everyone loses
