How did we get here? • 18 month process • Identified needs vs. wants • Need #1: Intervention opportunities in school day • Need #2: Foreign language offered to 7th grade • Scheduling team formed • All subject areas represented • Numerous site visits • Whole staff evaluated various models • Community buy-in • Early PTA newsletter notification • Site Council updates • Four parent informational meetings • News articles in Scotts Valley Banner

What ground work had we done? • Essential standards developed by department • Common summative assessments developed by department • Minimum three per subject/grade level (Including P.E. and Exploratories) • Several subjects/grade levels have more • Administration evaluated every resource, program, account string

How does our Academy schedule work? • Core subjects are teamed (Math, Science, History, English) • Two teams per grade level • Two person and four person teams per grade level • Teachers teach four periods plus one Enrichment period • One period of team time and one period of prep time • Exploratory and P.E. Classes • Teachers teach six out of seven periods • Teachers teach all three grade levels • Exploratory subjects designed around tenured staff, credentials and facilities
