  4. PORTUGAL NATIONS CUP – HERDADE DA COMPORTA 2010 INTRODUCTION Endurance The Endurance discipline was born in USA, in 1955, due to the hardness of the soils, step slopes of the land on which the events were performed and the equestrian sport little development. Nowadays, Endurance is one of the seven disciplines regulated by the International Equestrian Federation – FEI – and the second most practiced discipline in the world, showing the biggest growth in number of practitioners. Such development is happening mainly because of the Middle East countries involvement in this sport. Countries as United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia have invested millions of dollars on the purchase of horses, training and competition centers, as well as specialized personnel such as veterinarians, trainers and jockeys. The chosen race to acquire has been the Pure-bred Arabian, which is the horse with more skills for these events. Regarding this, the necessary conditions have been created on the European Continent in order to develop this race. All this investment has increased and developed this sport activity to perform higher speed events. Because of the improvements in the tracks, training, horses monitoring and selection, the 160km/day events, formerly won with 13 km/h speed, now reach 28 km/h. These characteristics led Endurance to perform long-distance races, with an unexplainable excitement surrounding.

  8. PORTUGAL NATIONS CUP – HERDADE DA COMPORTA 2010 GOALS Recognized as Public Utility Sports Entity, FEP, has the main objective of promoting the equestrian sport, through a moral conduct, consistency and trustworthiness with its employees and partners, protecting and organizing events that honor the various disciplines in sports, social and media terms. It is generated a dynamic around all the engaged entities that allows domestic and foreign companies to achieve greater visibility and exposure in the markets in which they operate, but also contribute to the good "sale" of Portugal's image, worldwide. Therefore, FEP main goal in the organization of an event of this magnitude is to have by their side institutions who allow it to raise the events level. This is only attainable through the financial collaboration of the most categorical companies present in the domestic market. The event category is measured through the vectors: organization, number of participants and audience. One of the Nations Cup main goals is to assure a Prize Money that, along with all the existing conditions, allows Portugal to become a mandatory point in the circuit, with a massive attendance of riders, companions and audience. We intend to assure a 30.000€ Prize Money, with all the conditions for Herdade da Comporta, strategically chosen in the middle of the Alentejo coast, to open its doors to one of the greatest International Equestrian events. In this case, one of the main goals is the promotion of the external relations of Portugal with the countries of the Middle East and Eastern. Thank you so much for your time and attention to the viability of this event, which gather all the conditions to become extraordinary, eternal in the sphere of international endurance.
