  1. International Workshopon Semi-Arid Land Surface-Atmosphere InteractionAugust 9-13, 2007, Lanzhou, China

  2. Background Arid and semi-arid areas comprise about 30% of earth surface Changes in climate and climate variability will likely have a significant impact on these regions. Semi-arid land surface- atmosphere interaction is not only one of the key issues in climate change research, it has also become a common Concern of governments and people. This workshop is intended to review recent progress in understanding semi-arid land surface- atmosphere interaction and provide a forum to promote international cooperative studies on semi-arid climate change.

  3. Key Topics of the workshop are: • Land surface-atmosphere interactions • Dust aerosol effect on hydrological cycle • Climate change monitoring in semi-arid environment • International cooperation on semi-arid research International Scientific Committee: Chair: Prof. Congbin Fu (Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China)

  4. Members: • Prof. T. Koike (University of Tokyo, Japan) • Prof. R. Dickinson (Georgia Institute of Technology, USA) • Prof. Zewei Lu(National Natural Science Foundation of China) • Prof. Jifan Chou(Lanzhou University, China) • Prof. Jianping Huang (Lanzhou University, China) • Dr. Kaz Higuchi (Environment Canada, Canada) • Prof. Qiang Fu (University of Washington, USA) • Prof. Jie Song (Northern Illinois University, USA) • Prof. Zongliang Yang (University of Texas, USA)
