Choosing the Right Privacy Hedge: Green Giants or Leyland Cypress?

When it comes to privacy hedges, the Leyland cypress and Green Giant Arborvitae are two popular choices. While the Leyland cypress may initially capture our attention with its lush green appearance, it requires quite a bit of maintenance. On the other hand, the Green Giant Arborvitae is a low-maintenance option that remains evergreen all year round, providing privacy without much effort. However, it's worth noting that harsh winters may occasionally require some extra attention. To help you decide which option is best for your needs, check out the informative graphic provided.

  1. CARING FOR LEYLAND CYPRESS AND GREEN GIANT TREES Many homeowners find themselves wondering which type of tree is best for their landscape. Two popular types are the Leyland Cypress and the Green Giant Arborvitae. Both trees are great for privacy, but when it comes to care and maintenance, there are some notable differences. Let’s explore these differences in more detail. LEYLAND CYPRESS CARE Leyland Cypress prefers full sun and well-drained soil, so it’s important to make sure your soil has good drainage before planting this tree. It also thrives in humid climates, so if you live in an area with very dry air, you may want to consider a different type of tree. The Leyland Cypress needs regular pruning and fertilizing to keep it healthy and vibrant, as well as regular watering during dry periods. GREEN GIANT CARE When it comes to Leyland Cypress v/s Green Giant. The Green Giant prefers well- drained soil, but it can handle wet soils better than the cypress, so if you have soggy or swampy regions in your yard, this may be a better alternative. The Green Giant, like most trees, requires frequent trimming and fertilization; but, unlike the cypress, it requires less water because it is more drought resistant.
