Sustainability Champions Conference – 26th November 2010 Regular items we recycle are: • Printer cartridges • Paper • Cardboard • Fluorescent tubes • CDs/DVD, bottle tops, wine corks (from home) • Stationery items • comb and slide binders • pens and pencils • ring binders, folders, lever arch, plastic wallets • A5 envelopes • Stamps • Food waste • Tea bags and coffee grounds • Polystyrene trays, tins, jars, kitchen plastics

  4. Stacking trays in a convenient place makes it easy for staff to store and re-use recyclable items.

  5. These green bins store some recyclable items from home.

  6. Sustainability Champions Conference – 26th November 2010 We had a tidy up and found that we had a surplus of binders. We are offering these free to schools.

  7. As you can see we have made good use of every little nook and cranny. Our information touch screen includes information on our eco progress.

  8. Our display boards show a variety of interesting eco information – we keep changing the information to act as constant reminders to staff and visitors.

  9. Energy data was taken from West Mercia’s energy website. Graphs were created to show comparisons dating back to 2005-06.

  11. Recycling and things that work well • We have an eco notice board that displays: • Environmental Review • Eco Action Plan • Our Eco Policy • Eco Minutes

  12. We now email telephone messages to colleagues rather than write on a message pad.

Sustainability Champions Conference – 26th November 2010 Good practice in the kitchen/refreshment area • We serve FairTrade products • We buy from local suppliers • Water cooler is plumbed into the mains water supply • We plan to have our own herb garden soon • NEW! Coffee stations and equipment are shut down and switched off at the end of training • NEW! Our aim is to switch off the catering refrigerator during school holidays

  14. Money raised goes to a charity.

  15. Outdoor environment that worked well We had a sunflower competition to involve the family / home We hung sunflower heads in the rear car park to feed the birds during the winter.

Since 2006 we have raised £891.56 from all sorts of fund raising events. • Fundraising events were: • Book Loan • Raffles • Jeans for Genes Day • FairTrade coffee mornings • St George’s, St David’s, St Andrew’s and St Patrick’s Day coffee mornings • Cake stall days • Children in Need week • Christmas card donations instead of sending cards • We have donated to: • Breast Cancer Care • ActionAid coffee break • Jeans for Genes Appeal • Cancer Research UK • Children in Need • Macmillan Cancer Support • Poppy Appeal

Sustainability Champions Conference – 26th November 2010 • Summary • We are serious about saving energy and CO2 emissions • We have targets to meet • We recycle or reuse as much as we can • We have new systems / new ways of doing things • Share information and ideas • Get others involved • Posters, notices, newsletters, displays work really well
