  3. Reclaiming Your Profession Step #1: The Personal Make a rule to never allow a negative comment about the teaching profession to go unanswered. You are a professional, prove it! Get educated on the issues that are important to the profession of teaching.

  4. Reclaiming Your Profession Step #2: Focus on the Community Write letters to the editor, or respond to comments made about teachers that are made in various forms of media. Attend school board meetings and speak during the public comment portions. Serve on district committees and interact with members of the administration and the community.

  5. Reclaiming Your Profession Step #3: Become an Activist Be a leader in the RNEA. Contact your elected officials. Work on a school board campaign. Donate money to a political candidate or cause. Participate in a political event… …like protesting Michelle Rhee at Powell Hall on November 8th!

  6. Remember, you do THE most important job in society!
