  5. Non Traditional Local Workers Military resources in the area? Hiring “transferable skill” veterans or retirees in their profession

  6. Non Traditional Local Workers Local Hispanic Population In our area we have a high percentage of Hispanic, so I helped create and customize a “Basic Plant Safety” ESL training program to prepare a high pass ratio for construction workers. These workers are legal to work in the U.S. and already have necessary skills from their respective country i.e. Peru, Colombia, Mexico etc. The only piece they needed was a bridge to be able to pass the safety council certification, fill out a job application , communicate in a plant environment, to include responding to crisis and emergencies in English

  7. Non Traditional Local and Foreign Workers George Hernandez, TIMEC Foreign Workers

  8. Foreign Workers Culture Philippines, India, Africa, Thailand, Cuba, South America • Paradigm shifting with special ingredient called patience i.e. SW Asia-Middle East, SE Asia-Japan • Life never stops i.e. crisis and emergencies at home • Staying in tune with your employees moods, temperaments, irregularities in performance

  9. Foreign Workers Post 911 procedures - Visa & Passports • Length of time to process factored into the recruiting process • Validate every step, never assume anything. • Always over communicate.

  10. Foreign Workers International Concepts of Safety – Additional concerted training programs with a focus on operational processes at all levels
