  • This is where tried Nazi Leaders

  • Violating peace treaties

  • Justice was Harsh

  • 7 sentenced to long jail terms

  • 12 accused Nazi hung from gallows

  • One swallowed cyanided before hung

  • America mad at lynching because not clear cut war crimes

  • Western allies refused Russia to bleed their zone of reparations (Stalin insisted been promised)

  • Allies also wanted reunited Germany

  • Communist responded by tightening grip on Eastern zone

  • Apparent Germany would remain divided

  • West Germany becomes independent but wedded to west

  • East Germany becomes nominally independent bound to the east
