  2. Questions to Ask Your Car Audio Installer So, you’ve just bought yourself a new car stereo, and for one reason or another, you’ve decided to use an installation service, rather than carrying out the work yourself. Often, this is because you will have to make modifications to the car, and that's too technical for a most DIYers. However, before you go off and hire any old car audio installation specialist, it’s important that you understand what to look for in one. Below, you will find five questions that will help you to find a decent installation service near you.

  3. Stereo installation….

  4. 1. Do the installers have audio qualifications? You might not realise it, but the people fitting the stereo should have some level of qualification in audio technologies. It makes sense when you think about it: they need to know where the various components connect; to work out if there are any problems simply by listening to the audio quality; and to fix any issues with the wiring, stereo, and head unit. A person needs a decent level of experience in order to understand the nuances of audio technologies, and a qualification is the best way for them to prove that they have this.

  5. 2. How much does the installation cost? Before you part with any money, make sure that you understand how much it will cost you. They should be able to offer you a quote and stick to it. A simple car audio installation should cost you between £30 and £50, while a more complex installation, involving changes to the interior of your car, will cost between £100 and £200, sometimes more. Once you have the price, compare this to the rest of the market to ensure you’re getting a good price.

  6. If they need to, do they have the skills & resources to cut into the dashboard and doors? As we mentioned briefly above, some installations require modifying the vehicle. For instance, if your dashboard only has space for a single DIN head unit, but you want a double DIN, they might have to cut into the dashboard. It’s important that they have the necessary skills to do this, because a bad job will make your car look awful and will affect its value.

  8. 4. Do they know where the hidden slots are on your vehicle? We said above that they might have to cut into the dash if you buy a double DIN, but only currently have a single DIN. This might have thrown you off, because you might assume if there’s no hole there, there’s no way to fit it. However, car manufacturers often put extra slots in to the car to accommodate for changes in the stereo, such as new speakers and a new head unit. To fit a double DIN might simply require the popping out of a panel, rather than cutting into the dash. A decent installer knows where these hidden slots are on various makes and models of car.

  9. For the head unit, it’s obvious, because it’s on the dashboard, but for extra tweeters and woofers, the slots might be harder to locate. 5. Do they have a good reputation? Finally, once they have satisfied the above conditions, you now need to verify that they have a decent reputation. If they’re local, ask friends, family, and work colleagues. If they’re from further afield, then check on outline reviews. If you would like further advice about stereo installation, please visit our official website www.incarmusic.co.uk
