INFOhio Techie Tips & Tricks to Make Your Life Easier Prepared for 2009 Education Technology Conference – INFOhio Technical Services Remote Access through VNC Helps Support Staff (ITC or School) Troubleshoot Problems Available for Windows or Mac Uses a VNC Server and VNC Viewer Server runs on the machine that will be sharing its desktop. Viewer is used to connect to the server.

Requirements: User must install and configure VNC server software External IP address needs to be assigned to computer Port 5900 (TCP) and 5800 (if using Web-based viewer) must be open to the user’s machine.. Disadvantages: User must install and setup the VNC server software. Requires more work for the network administrator.

Once connected, staff machine establishes connection to the user’s desktop. Essentially, this is the same as a direct connection but is initiated by the user and requires less work by the network administrator. Requirements: User must run the VNC viewer software Staff must run the VNC server software Ports 5500 (TCP) and 5900 (TCP) must be open

Turn off User Access Control Go to the Control Panel, Select Users, Uncheck ‘User Access Control’ Install Workflows per documentation

If machine is upgraded to Vista, processor must be 700Mhz minimum, 1.4 Ghz recommended. 1024 x 768 screen resolution

You may need to log on as “ROOT” to uninstall the client the next time an update is available, but you should NOT be logged on as “ROOT” to install the Java Workflows Client for the MAC any longer.

This means machines running MAC Workflows (java 1.6) must be 64-bit Intel processors (Ex. Core 2 Duo) or better. This is an APPLE requirement, not a SirsiDynix requirement.

Use the utility to remove the Java WorkFlows program from the computer. Afterwards, delete the folder c:\program files\sirsijwf\ (or … sirsi\jwf) and any remaining contents. Delete the folder c:\Documents and Settings\( )\Sirsi.

Delete the Workflows folder found in (User) /Library /Preferences / Workflows Delete the Workflows folder found in (HD)/Library Receipts /Workflows Search on computer for any other Sirsi-related Workflows – Delete Empty Trash

If no photos available, ask INFOhio Support Staff to confirm that the display of patron photos has been disabled
