  1. Express Deployment Tool

  2. Introducing the Express Deployment Tool! • The Solution: • The Express Deployment Tool (EDT) leverages a wizard-based graphical user interface allowing system builders to bypass dozens of hours of learning and hundreds of pages of text associated with traditional OPKs in a matter of 30-60 minutes. The Issue: Traditional Microsoft® OPKs contain a wealth of technical information and are designed to meet the needs of the wide range of OEMs who build PCs. System builders often don’t have the time or resources to read through and implement pre-installation based on the traditional OPK.

  3. EDT Overview • The EDT was developed to help system builders quickly, easily, and correctly deploy PCs with Windows® 7, Office 2010, PC Essentials, and Security Essentials. • In conjunction with the OPK tools, the EDT interface facilitates the deployment of PCs in typical environments, allowing system builders to easily populate the most common customization options such as OEM branding, support and contact information, and much more. With one click, the EDT enables PC Essentials configuration. With only a few clicks, many of the more technically difficult options such as Hard Drive Recovery and adding software to the image can be enabled. Previously, installation of these advanced features required time-intensive research. With the EDT it’s now easier to create a consistent and customized end-user experience. Download the EDT at www.microsoft.com/oem/ExpressDeploymentTool

  4. Benefits of the EDT Reduces deployment time Simplifies pre-installation process Reduces deployment complexity Reduce costs, increase satisfaction Wizard-based interface consolidates and simplifies the pre-installation process allowing system builders to quickly and easily create a quality PC with a customized user experience. Reduces deployment complexity and creates a robust solution that deploys without user input during the installation process and includes hard drive recovery, the complete PC Essentials software stack, and rapid deployment method. Can help system builders increase end-user satisfaction, increase image quality, and ultimately grow their business. Greatly reduces the time required to install and deploy Windows 7, Office 2010, PC Essentials, and Security Essentials.

  5. EDT Process Technical PC Role Reference PC Role Install from network • Install Windows 7 OPK and the EDT • Customize your Windows 7 installation for the Reference PC • Select OS version (x86 or x64) • Select HDD Recovery option • Select PC Essentials • Stage all required software • Create WinPE for capture and deployment of images post Reference PC setup • Create WinPE boot method – WDS, USB or CD/DVD • Install Customized Windows 7 via WinPE from Technical PC based on selection and via network • Install staged software from Technical PC • Shutdown Reference PC • Boot Reference PC via WinPE • Capture Windows image(s) to Technical PC • Redeploy images from network to multiple PC / Laptops simultaneously Capture to image share or ext HDD Apply image from network or ext HDD In all cases the network needs to be present

  6. Hardware and Software Requirements • Minimum Operating System and Requirements: • Windows 7 Product bits • Windows 7 OEM Pre-installation Kit (OPK) installed • Isolated network for deployment, preferably with DHCP • Recommended Operating System and Requirements: • Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 configured as a Windows Deployment Server (Step by Step guide included in the EDT) • Windows 7 OPK installed • Isolated network for deployment, preferably with DHCP • Hardware recommendations • Deployment via network - Gigabit Ethernet NICs and switches or greater • Deployment via Hard Drive - USB2.0 or greater Download the EDT at www.microsoft.com/oem/ExpressDeploymentTool
