  1. Low Noise Amplifiers technology at the MPIfR S. Türk1, S. Lenz1, C. Leinz1, F. Thome2,A. Dunning3, F. Schäfer1 1Max-Planck-Institute for Radio Astronomy, 2Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics, 3CSIRO • Poster presenting current projects of the technology group of the MPIfR: • Design & fabrication of LNAs for current runnig projects • DC-, noise/gain- and S-parameter characterisation of HEMTs and MMICs at RT and 15K • On-wafer prober for S-parameter and noise measurements of wafer pieces at RT and 15K -> Talk on Tuesday 12:40-13:00: „LNAs Developments for Cryo-PAFs“

  2. Low Noise Amplifiers technology at the MPIfR S. Türk1, S. Lenz1, C. Leinz1, F. Thome2,A. Dunning3, F. Schäfer1 1Max-Planck-Institute for Radio Astronomy, 2Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics, 3CSIRO • LNAs for the S-Band Receiver of the MeerKat-Project in South Africa: • 160 MMICs tested on-wafer at RT and 15K • 50% were assembled, measured and parts of those already installed in receivers • Noise- and gain-measurements of MeerKat-LNAs are shown • LNAs for the new Ku-Band receiver in Effelsberg: • Presentation of noise- and gain-measurements

  3. Low Noise Amplifiers technology at the MPIfR S. Türk1, S. Lenz1, C. Leinz1, F. Thome2,A. Dunning3, F. Schäfer1 1Max-Planck-Institute for Radio Astronomy, 2Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics, 3CSIRO • W-Band LNAs: • Optimization of W-Band LNAs using the IAF-mHEMT Technology within the AETHRA-Project (Advanced European Technologies for Heterodyne Receivers for Astronomy) • Recent measurements show that the noise performance of LNAs in mHEMT-Technology deliver equal performance as compared to the best InP-HEMT LNAs • Noise- gain-measurement will be shown

  4. Low Noise Amplifiers technology at the MPIfR S. Türk1, S. Lenz1, C. Leinz1, F. Thome2,A. Dunning3, F. Schäfer1 1Max-Planck-Institute for Radio Astronomy, 2Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics, 3CSIRO • Presentation of: • a tiltable cryogenic test-dewar for the measurement of noise- and S-parameter (waveguide and coaxial) • a universal cryogenic test-dewar for the measurement of S-parameter • Automatic test system for temperature cycling of LNAs -> MTBF • S-parameter measurement of a MeerKat LNA, which survived 830 cooling cycles
