  1. Important Tips to Maintain Good Gum Health

  2. Tips to Maintain Good Gum Health • Maintaining a healthy smile takes a lot more than having a straight set of teeth. You also need to take care of your gums. • Gums keep the teeth in place and serve as a first line of defense. They help keep harmful bacteria out and protect not only your oral health but your general health as well.  • Gum problems aren’t always painful at the start, so it’s possible to have them without you knowing. Left untreated, gum disease can spread and cause the bones and teeth to deteriorate.

  3. Here are some Important Tips for Maintaining Healthy Gums:

  4. Brush Twice A Day • Daily brushing helps keep plaque from accumulating on teeth surfaces and turning into tartar. Brushing can get rid of plaque, but it won’t be able to remove tartar. • Tartar can irritate the gums and cause infections. You may experience tenderness and bleeding in your gums. To help motivate you to brush, use a toothbrush that you feel most comfortable with. • Don’t brush aggressively, as it may only cause the gums to recede and result in heightened sensitivity.

  5. Floss Daily • Don’t forget to floss your teeth and gums too. Brushing cannot take out all the debris in the mouth. That’s why you also need to floss daily. • Dental floss can get into tight spaces between teeth and along the gumline. It can remove plaque and deposits that would otherwise linger too long in the mouth. • Flossing is one of the simplest ways to prevent gum disease. Talk to your dentist about techniques and products they can recommend if you’re not comfortable with the typical dental floss.

  6. Stop Smoking • Smoking isn’t only detrimental to your overall health, it can also be harmful to your oral health. • Smoking can weaken the body’s immunity and slow down healing and recovery. It can make it harder to fight infections. You become more vulnerable to gum problems, and it will take longer for your mouth to heal. • Aside from increasing risks of developing gum disease, smoking can also cause bad breath, tooth staining, and oral cancer.

  7. Maintain A Healthy Diet • Eating nutritious food also benefits your teeth and gums. • Vitamins and minerals are essential in keeping your mouth healthy and helping it fight harmful bacteria and infections.

  8. Take care of your gums so they can protect your teeth better. Making lifestyle changes can be challenging, but it’s worth all the effort. • When you pay more attention to your oral health, you also improve your overall wellbeing.
