  2. Capitalism • Capitalism is an economic system in which private people, not the government, own and run companies. • In a capitalist system, private households need goods. They buy these goods from the income they have. Some households have more income than others. • This is the type of economy we have

  3. How governments regulate economy • A government must make sure that there is enough competition to deep prices low, the quality products high. • If only a few companies produce products they may agree to keep prices high.

  4. Limits of Regulation • When the government starts controlling parts of a free economy or a capitalistic like our own that’s when it starts pushing its limit • full control is too far • The balance is hard to find • “that government is best which governs least” (on the duty of civil disobedience) • So is there really a balance?

  6. Inside Job • CEOs kept all of their earnings when companies went bankrupt, with no penalties and no criminal charges.

  7. Regulation of business • Market Failure is an argument for the government regulation of business recognizes that a free market usually enables people to do the best that can be done. • Advocates of the “market failure” approach contend that there are some serious exceptions.
