  3. Rubrics Refreshed: • Writing (Interpersonal & Presentational) • Interpersonal Speaking • Presentational Speaking New: • Listening • Reading

  4. Holistic vs. Analytic • Holistic = proficiency level • NOT specific to a task • Use for your SLO • Do NOT use for a grade • Analytic = grade • Use to grade a task • Put in your gradebook

  5. Holistic Rubrics For PROFICIENCY, not for a grade!

  6. Holistic Rubric Proficiency Targets • Level 1 - Novice Mid • Level 2 - Novice High • Level 3 - Intermediate Low • Level 4 - Intermediate Mid • Target column is grey on rubric for each level

  7. Writing Rubric • Same rubric for interpersonal and presentational writing • Categories: • Vocabulary • Language Control & Structure • Complexity of Written Expression • Comprehensibility

  8. Comparison Take a look at the “refreshed” version of the writing rubric. What is similar to last year’s version? What has changed?

  9. Key changes • Levels increase from left → right • Analytic rubric on a separate page • Vocabulary and Language Structures are combined for beginning levels • Language has been updated to take into consideration teacher feedback and ACTFL “Can Do Statements”

  10. Numbers are for data purposes only - NOT for a grade! Vocabulary and Language Structure are combined for Pre-Novice and Novice Low Target proficiency column is shaded Key words are underlined to highlight subtle distinctions between levels

  20. Create a Task • Work in a group of 2-3 teachers • Choose a specific skill area and proficiency level (Ex: Presentational Writing, Novice High) • Create a student task aimed at proficiency level that you chose

  21. Share Your Task Share your task with the group. You probably didn’t have time to develop it fully, but share your ideas.

  22. Have a Great Year! • Rubrics can be found on Alfresco: • teach.hcpss.org • World Languages > Document Library > Curriculum Assessment > SLOs • As you use the rubrics with your students, note what works and what doesn’t so we can make them even better!
